New York Aquarium

Today we went to the New York Aquarium in Coney Island. You and I have never been out there but I think mommy has. It's in a beach resort neighborhood but it's nothing fancy. The aquarium though was very good.

We took the F line out to Coney Island. It was a bit of a run around because there was some work being done on the tracks. We eventually made it though. Here we are on the walkway over to the beach. You can see the amusement rides behind you.

Here we are looking out to the sea.

It was quite cold out but you wanted nothing to do with you hat. "Here daddy. You take it."

When we first entered the aquarium they had a huge fish tank. I mean huge. It had lots of fishes and sting rays and a few moray eels like the one here.

You were anxious to get as close as possible to the fish so we propped you up on the window sill.

Look at all the fish (or fishies as we say to you). This is what it looks like when mommy and daddy go diving in the Caribbean.

And here's the sting ray. I had a tough time taking a good shot of them because they move pretty fast. This is the best picture.

They also had tortoises which you have seen before.

And an iguana lizard which you haven't.

We found Nemo! The clown fish like to hang out around the sea anemone. You like to say anemone.

Jelly fish! They were very pretty.

Outside there was a sea lion. He had very slick skin. I took this shot just as a fish was going into his mouth. The lady on the right was an employee and feeding all the sea lions.

Here's a sea otter. You can see a lot of these in California.

Next we went to the shark area. Here's a giant turtle and a huge stingray below it.

And here's a shark! You kept saying "shark, shark" all day.

Then we went to a jellyfish area. They had lots of them. I like this photo a lot.

And another moray eel.

And we saw one of your favorites - Seahorses!

We also went to a 'touch' area where you touched a starfish and a horseshoe crab.

Then we went to a exhibit that lets you know what it's like to be under a waterfall. No one got wet. It's covered in glass.

Then we went to another area where we saw a giant octopus. It was too dark to take photos. There were also 3 big walruses that I forgot to take a picture of. They were huge! And to finish off some tiny sting rays.

I was hoping we could feed the rays because I saw it on your Elmo DVD. But that wasn't set up in the 'touch' area. Then we headed home. It was a long morning so you took a nap.

Oh I almost forgot. We also saw a dolphin. Wait a second... That's not a dolphin is it?

2-Year Checkup

Today we went to your two-year old check-up at Dr. Turner's office. You weighed 29 pounds and measured 2 feet, 10.5 inches tall. I think you lost some weight this last week because the last time we weighed you at home you were nearly 31 pounds! Dr. Turner checked your lungs - you giggled while he moved the stethoscope around your chest. You used to be afraid of Dr. Turner but not anymore - what a big girl. When it was time for a shot (Hepatitis A), you did not even cry when he put the needle in your arm. I was so surprised! But afterward you knew you had a boo-boo on your arm.

Girlie walked you back home .while I went to the grocery store to buy some fruits and dinner. When I got home, you were sound asleep in the stroller again. 30 minutes later, you woke up and were ready to play around the house. I had to take another conference call and then we said goodbye to Girlie.

When Daddy got home, we took a few more videos and ate dinner - raviolis with pesto and chicken noodle soup. You had your second dinner with us and then played with Daddy until it was bedtime. You fell fast asleep. Sweet dreams, little Miss Sophia.

Busy Sunday

Today we went to breakfast at 9:30AM on the Upper West Side to meet Tameron and Todd and their newborn daughter, Reagan. Reagan is one month old now - it was freezing cold outside in the mid-20s. We tried to meet at Good Enough to Eat but there was a 20 minute wait - even at 9:30AM! So instead we went to EJ's two blocks south.
Reagan slept during most of our breakfast - after we finished eating, Todd took Reagan out of her carseat so we could take a close look at her. You were very interested in Reagan and even gave her a kiss on the head. Very cute.

After breakfast, while you took a nap, I snuck out to visit another newborn in Carroll Gardens - my friend Lisa Marchese and her husband Kevin Duffy had their third child two weeks ago. Colin Patrick was born on January 7th - he was so tiny.
After your nap. we walked to a children's book reading in Dumbo - you were more interested in playing with the toys and checking out the other babies. You also enjoyed roaming around the bookstore looking for Daddy. In the evening, we went to dinner with Lisa, Steve and Luke Owens. They live in Tribeca and drove over to Dumbo. Lisa had trouble with her new phone so they accidentally forgot about your birthday party a few weeks ago, so we celebrated your birthday again. For your birthday, you received another tricycle - we'll return it and find some other useful toys. We enjoyed a nice dinner at Five Front - you weren't very hungry. In fact, toward the end of dinner, you decided to lay down on my lap. When we got home, I took your temperature and you had a fever of 103.5. Poor baby - I gave you some Motrin and you fell asleep right away. Sweet dreams.

More Birthday Presents

Today we flew home from Seattle - it is so much shorter flying from Seattle to NY! Again, you were an angel on the flight. We watched part of the Dora video, ate more pasta for lunch, played in our row of seats and then you took a nap for almost two hours. Though our flight arrived on time, we waited for nearly 45 minutes for our bags at Baggage Claim - what a disaster!

We were so happy to be home and to see Daddy. Daddy had fun going out drinking until 4AM with some friends last night, so we stayed at home and relaxed.

You received another box of birthday presents from your cousins, Jonathan and James. So many presents! I think you finally understand the concept of presents and how much fun it is to rip open the wrapping paper. Your Aunt Caroline also bought you a new pair of Barbie cowgirl boots - Yee Haw! You love to jump off Daddy. . .but I bet our neighbors below hate it! We will call Aunt Caroline, Uncle Larry, Jonathan and James tomorrow to say "Thanks!"

Snowy Seattle

This week, we flew to Seattle since I had a big presentation (Mid Year Review) - plus it was our turn to Daddy and Girlie the week off since I was in London last week. Luckily, you were an angel on the flight to Seattle - we first watched the Dora video, ate some pasta and tofu for dinner, played in our row of seats, and then you fell asleep in your carseat while watching the Leapfrog video. I also slept for two hours on the flight - how lucky!

The next morning when I dropped you off at daycare, I couldn't believe how much snow was still on the ground. This is the playground at daycare - someone even built a small snowman but it is difficult to see in the photo.

You cried your eyes out when I left you at daycare - in fact, you cried so hard that you puked on yourself. Poor Sophia. After an hour or so, you started to have fun playing with Elmo and reading books. When I picked you up in the afternoon, you were so happy to see me and your teacher said you were fine all day long.

On Wednesday night, I had to give my presentation at 6:30PM so Zlatka came to our hotel to babysit. Zlatka used to be your teacher in the newborn class. She even brought you a birthday present which was another puzzle with stackable pegs. You were upset when I left the hotel but Zlatka took you for a walk and played with you until it was bedtime. I came home around 10:30PM and you were sound asleep.

The next morning, you ran around the hotel room bare-naked. You love seeing yourself in the mirror, especially a full-length mirror. On Thursday after work, we drove to Madrona to have dinner with Sandy, Rich and Sadie Wickham - Sandy is also pregnant with baby #2. We went to St Clouds for dinner, but I wasn't feeling very well and had a terrible headache. I was so exhausted and felt ready to pass out. After we had a quick dinner, we drove back to the hotel - I brushed my teeth and your teeth, changed you into pajamas, gave you some milk, child-proofed the room and then feel fast-asleep on the bed. The last thing I remember hearing was your puzzle pieces crashing to the floor; an hour or so later, you climbed into the bed and fell asleep next to me. Luckily you were smart enough to climb into bed - PHEW!

The next morning, you were full of giggles - here you are rolling on top of the luggae and laughing your head off. What a cutie! On Friday night, I left work early so that we could visit the Cho family - Junehee, Hoon and their son Brandon. Sometimes we stay at their house and you play with Brandon and his nanny Colleen. Junehee is also pregnant and due in March. They may move back to NY this summer since Hoon is looking for another job. You had fun playing with Brandon's marble maze but you kept trying to destroy it.Snack time - YUMMY!After visiting the Chos, we drove to Som and Tanya's house - they were so excited to see you. Since it was Som's birthday too last week, I brought some cupcakes to celebrate. They invited some friends over for dinner later - first it was dinner time for Sophia. You ate so much pasta and tofu! Here is Som trying to give you a kiss - pucker up!Next we said CHEERS because Som and Tanya are expecting their first baby this summer. Tanya is due on September 1st!After you finished eating, Som gave you a ride on his back - I think you missed riding Brownie at home. One more day and we'll be home. . . . Good night, Daddy!

Month 24 Stats - Happy Birthday

Today you are two. Since you like to watch Dora I let you watch all night as a present. You are just fixated on the screen when a DVD is in the player.

And you are slouching. You used to have good posture. Look at that? That's awful.

After a while though you do get a bit bored. So you start jumping up and down while you watch.

Here's your present from Gordon yesterday. Today we also received another book that clips into this toy.

We finished off the night with a ride on Brownie...

And then we made silly faces like they did in the Dora video you watched. You laughed a lot. I put you down at 8:30 and no crying whatsoever tonight.

Mommy's in London

Mommy left for a few days to go to London. She hasn't been away for quite a while. You've been spoiled. I'm going to spend the next few days getting you back on schedule with sleeping. You've been screaming a lot at bedtime because you know it gets mommy to come in. Well I'm not coming in (mean dad). You are on your own in there.

When I got home we received a present from your friend Gordon in NJ. He sent you another frog toy. It's an electronic picture book that you can play games with or identify shapes and colors. You got the hang of it pretty quickly. And it's for ages 3-5. Way to go.

After we opened that up we pulled out the paints since we haven't done that in a while. We did some painting...

And then we washed up in the sink. You were a bit of a mess. But you love water so we just sat there for a while.

Then it was time to get some food. Nuts and tofu and milk were on the menu and you were buying. Now I just give you a wipe in the beginning because you love to have clean hands.

"Umm. Tofu. My favorite."

After that we cleaned up, changed your diaper, read a few books and it was off to bed. Naturally you screamed for 10 minutes. "Mommmy" for 5 minutes. When you realized she wasn't coming then "Daddy" for 5 minutes more. You just passed out in there. Sweet dreams.

Happy Birthday - 2 Years Old

Even though it isn't technically your birthday today mommy decided to have a party for you. She will be out of town for your real birthday later this week.

Before the party we put you down for a nap. You were screaming bloody murder in your crib so mommy put you on our bed and you settled down.

We had some cupcakes for all the kids and one very nice cake for the adults. Here's the nice one.

And here you are feasting on your cupcake. We rarely let you have sugar so you were very excited. On your first birthday you were very well mannered about eating your cupcake. This year you tucked in a little more but were still pretty neat about the whole event.

Just a little icing on the face.

Yummy

Here's Katie, Matt, and Cassidy. You've played with her before. She's about your age.

And here you are playing with Mari.

This is May and Joshua. I work with her at Bernstein. He was the youngest in the entire group.

And here you are fighting over the tricycle with Riley.

Mommy had some arts and crafts activities. Here I am doing all the work for you putting stickers on some foam that you can stick on the door handle. You managed to get one on your foot.

And for when you get older this is what your boyfriends will do all day. Sit around and watch football.
